Huang Qin, also known as Scutellaria baicalensis, is a Chinese herb that has been used for centuries in Traditional  Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat a wide range of ailments, including skin diseases. Huang Qin belongs to the mint family and contains a compound called baicalin, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. These properties make it a valuable herb for treating various skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

In TCM, Huang Qin is believed to clear "heat" and "toxicity" from the body, which are thought to be the root causes of many skin diseases. The herb is commonly used in TCM formulations, both internally and topically, to treat skin conditions. When used topically, Huang Qin can be applied as a paste or cream directly to the affected area. When taken internally, it is often used in combination with other herbs to create a formula tailored to the individual patient's needs.

Several studies have investigated the effectiveness of Huang Qin for treating skin diseases. A 2014 study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that topical application of Huang Qin extract was effective in reducing inflammation in mice with atopic dermatitis. Another study published in the Journal of Dermatological Science in 2016 found that a TCM formula containing Huang Qin was effective in reducing the severity of psoriasis in a small group of patients. While more research is needed to fully understand the benefits of Huang Qin for skin disease, these studies suggest that the herb may be a promising natural treatment option for those seeking relief from skin conditions.
